The inlaid ornamentation with rhythmic pattern and the suite’s restrained elegance are unique in the history of furniture design. The armchair and sofa frames, and the tabletop are solid hardwood with mahogany, lemon and walnut veneers, lacquered. The seat is upholstered. The fabric was designed by Eliel Saarinen and manufactured by Backhausen, Vienna. The cabinet has a ply and solid hardwood frame using East Indian Rosewood, African mahogany and Maple veneers, lacquered. Typical of Saarinen’s subtle style, a beautifully abstract peacock pattern of precious veneers is inland on the inside face of each cabinet door.
