Armchairs from PP Møbler, Designed by Hans J. Wegner
Product description
PP Møbler started manufacturing this elegant easy chair in 1979. Originally, Hans J. Wegner designed this chair in the 50ies in cooperation with Børge Mogensen. Together, this remarkable team designed a full range of furniture consisting of a chair, a table, and a sofa for an FDB campaign (The Danish Federation of Cooperative Stores) to allow the average Dane to be able to buy solid designer furniture at reasonable prices.
The two designers decided to divide the credit for the design between them, meaning that Børge Mogensen got the sofa and Wegner got the chair. The chair was further developed by PP Møbler and Wegner before it entered production.
It is an excellent example of classic Danish design. The cooperation with Børge Mogensen is obvious, but The Easy Chair also points to Wegner's continuous fascination with the classic English Windsor Chair, which has been produced since the 17th century in a large number of variations.
