Vintage Swedish Kilim by Ingegerd Silow

Rugs from Nazmiyal Rugs, Designed by Ingegerd Silow

Product description

Here is a beautifully designed and compelling vintage rug – a vintage Swedish kilim that was woven in Scandinavia during the middle years of the twentieth century with a design by celebrated Swedish rug designer Ingegerd Silow. One of the most accomplished designer of the twentieth century, Silow is admired for her ephemeral and beautiful carpets, which often feature geometric floral details and soft colors. This vintage Swedish rug is a lovely example of Silow’s style, from its small geometric floral details to its clever division into compartments. The topmost and bottommost portions of the carpet are marked by mostly unadorned horizontal bands of brown – the designer’s initials, IS, appear on the lower band. The rest of this Scandinavian carpet deals in shades of grey, from the darker shade that appears in between the compartments to the lighter shade of the compartments themselves. Nestled in the center of each compartment is an intriguing design: a band of brown, decorated with small floral details, that features a different color in the center: yellow in the case of the upper and lower bands, a blue-purple color in the case of the center band. A unique and exciting rug, this vintage Swedish kilim is a fascinating example.
