Here is a dynamic, exciting and quite sophisticated vintage carpet – a mid-century modern Scandinavian kilim, woven in Sweden during the middle years of the twentieth century. Boasting a unique and alluring composition, this vintage carpet is an excellent example of the aesthetic range and experimentation that characterized mid-twentieth century Scandinavian carpet production. A double-sided Scandinavian double sided Swedish Tapestry rug, this vintage carpet features flat-woven faces that are effectively the inverse of one another. One side features a white background and eccentric lifework woven in a pale teal blue. Meanwhile, the other side features a pale teal blue background, and a lifework rendered in white. The images are intriguing: intersecting, thin lines, with a negative space in the center that is filled to bursting with small circular detail elements. The impression of the composition is unique – the narrow line work and minimalistic presentation gives the entire piece an air of experimentation and unconstrained expressionism.
