This vintage rug has a long history reaching back to late medieval times. Swedish rug weavers are prized for their sense of pure abstract simplicity of design and their wonderful color. Here the simple geometry appears in the bands of stepped motifs on tan accented by saffron stripes, but the design relies mostly on the most lovely shade of green, subtly shaded or variegated to provide a sense of depth. Made originally as sled coverlets or blankets, they are effective as well as floor coverings or textile paintings for the wall.
