Concept

MARKANTBACKBONE
Markant is introducing Backbone, an innovative office furniture range. The total space saving design couples functionality and design.

PRACTICAL
Backbone is a rigid elongated range of furniture, to which four workstations can be coupled. On a relative small surface Backbone creates a spacious, restful and easy to keep clean work environment.

LINK
Backbone derives its name from the Internet, where the backbone is the main artery which links small computer networks with one another. And linking is exactly what Backbone does both digitally and physically, digitally, because all cables for data traffic and mains voltage are integrated into the furniture and physically, because Backbone links employees with one another in a structure which simplifies collaboration, but ensures privacy.

PERSONAL
The needs of the individual user are central in Backbone. The storage space in every workstation can be extended as desired with revolving doors, CPU sections and file drawers. The workstations are free-standing and can be adjusted to any desired height.

FURNITURE
Backbone consists of two cabinet components connected by a top. Every workstation has as a standard two A6 drawers and four file sections, but this division is modular.Backbone is available in two colours: Wenge, woodgrain and white. The doors and drawers have a solid wheel mechanism and are soft-closing. Backbone fits into every Markant furniture range.

TECHNIQUE
Backbone is provided as a standard with cable lead-through.Between the top and the cabinet is located a recess for the cables. This is accessible without equipment. The Markant Wirebasket accompanies the cabling under the top to four power frames. Each of these contact boxes is provided with two 230V connections and two data connections.

CENTRALLY PLACED
Backbone is placed centrally between the workstations. The item of furniture is made from two cabinet components and a bridging top. Because the cabinet components are divided through the centre by a partition, each workstation has its own cabinet.

CABLE LEAD-THROUGH
Backbone is provided as a standard with cable lead-through over the entire length of the item of furniture. Between the top and the cabinet is an easily accessible recess for the storage of cables. The Markant Wirebasket ensures the problem-free conduction of the cables.

CURRENT AND DATA CONNECTION
Every workstation has three 230V stop contacts, which can if desired be replaced by one or more data connections or USB ports. This system is easy to extend with extra contact boxes, design lighting and a special aluminium conduit for the supply of current and data from the ceiling. This conduit prevents the connection of the free-standing workstations using cables which trail over the floor.

VARIABLE DIVISION
Every cabinet component is provided with four A4 drawers and eight file sections. This division is variable, with space for revolving doors, CPU sections and file drawers. Both the doors and the drawers are fitted with high-grade hinge and wheel mechanisms and with aluminium handles.

MATERIAL
Backbone is made from high-grade laminated chipboard with an HPL top and is available in Chateau oak and solid white. Other finishes are available against an extra charge.
