Concept

Since the 1970’s Peter Maly has designed numerous modern classics. His famous Zyklus armchair was designed in 1983 and is still in production today, as is the bed which bears his name, designed that same year. It was with the Maly Bed in 1983 that Ligne Roset embarked upon an intensive collaboration with Peter Maly that still endures today.

In 1985 Peter Maly designed the Prao settee for Ligne Roset: Prao was the first settee to have a completely variable geometry thanks to its removable, adjustable back and armrests. This space-saving and extremely functional settee was in production for many years and was highly successful: perfect for the smaller living space, it could have been made with city apartments in mind. In honour of Ligne Roset’s 150-year anniversary, Peter Maly revisits the idea of Prao 25 years later, with the same functions newly reinterpreted in the language of the Year 2010. He has named this new remix Ted.

Peter Maly: "Ted is a collection of seating which has been deliberately reduced in terms of its dimensions, and yet still remains both extremely comfortable and highly functional. Built on an underframe of steel tubing, both its upholstered backrests and upholstered armrests are invisibly anchored to its metal frame. All of these may be removed and their positions altered with the touch of a hand. The armrests are movable and may be adjusted to suit the comfort requirements of the sitter."
