Elements is an upholstery textile, inspired by the micro-patterns and colours of the natural world. The woven wool fabric is very soft, comfortable and durable, making it well-suited to private homes and the contract market, especially hotels. Tord Boontje originally created Element’s abstract, dynamic design in the form of a scratchy line drawing. It is woven into the textile resulting in an organic, random pattern that breaks the surface and resembles rocks or earth, depending on the colour. After this, the fabric is milled until it is soft, which gives it a felt-like surface.
The random nature of the pattern means it is extremely easy to work with. Elements is ideal for upholstering organic shapes. The palette is comprised of natural, neutral tones: pale pebble grey, slate grey, sea grey, snow cloud grey, twilight blue, granite brown, mud brown, anthracite grey, and black. The design has a timeless quality. As Tord Boontje explains: “It gives the piece of furniture an almost patinated look, as though it has been used for many years, like an old, favourite armchair.”
