A new version of the BCN stool, already winner of the Good Design Award by the Chicago Athenaeum, makes its debut in Paris: the seat, soft and sinuous, is always in a special plastic material that is typically used as insulation for electronic components, because of its exceptional resistance to wear, solvents and heat. In the new version presented at NOW! this material is in pleasant contrast to the warmness of the natural beech wood used for the legs, attached to the seat with metal supports painted in the same finish. The stool BCN comes also in a fixed version with frame on a single leg and in two swivelling versions - on a disc-shaped base and on a 5-spoke base - both with a height-adjustable device. In all versions the seat is available in white, black and fluo green, with a matching or chrome-plated frame.
The most unusual partnerships often produce the most explosive mixes and the BCN Wood stool, which enhances in 2011 the collection of chairs dedicated to Barcelona, exemplifies this concept. It arose from the different cultures and mindset of its designers, Harry van Ierssel, who is Dutch, and Camila Vega Faba, South American, and from an unusual combination of materials: natural beech wood, for the legs, and PBT, a hi-tech polyester for the seat. This material was borrowed (in true Kristalia tradition) from a sector that is entirely alien to the furnishing sector: the electronic industry, where it is used as insulation, as it is highly resistant to weight and heat.
