Umbrella constructions are the solutions of choice whenever large surfaces, such as interior courtyards and squares, need to be covered without further disturbing the constructional landscape or the landmark fabric of a city. Intended to provide shelter from the sun or rain, umbrella constructions can be designed as rigid elements or as constructions that can be opened. The construction of funnel umbrellas is made up of compression-loaded design elements - commonly made of steel, aluminium or wood - and a tensioned membrane. Any accumulating water is drained through the centre of the umbrella. The fact that the design of the umbrella is a true eye-catcher that satisfies the highest standards becomes immediately apparent when you look at the multitude of possible shapes: round, angular, symmetrical and available in extra large dimensions of up to 30 x 30 metres.
