Suspended by a simple brass stem, which seamlessly hides the lamp’s wiring, the new pendant design makes a traditional addition to the RIO range. As well as brushed brass, the RIO pendant is also offered in a classic oiled or waxed brass finish whereby the brass is brushed and then traditionally oiled and waxed without any artificial lacquer.

Concept

KAIA’s RIO suspension fixtures are a perfect demonstration of the Viennese studio’s ability to manipulate and craft the seemingly intangible quality of light into a physical object. Each of the three lights in the RIO collection are based upon a ring of pure, even light that appears to effortlessly hover in mid air.
‘The idea behind RIO was to create something like a nimbus - the white rings that appear around the sun or moon when light reflects and refracts through ice crystals in the atmosphere,’ explains KAIA’s design mastermind, Peter Straka. ‘Like this mesmerising natural phenomenon, I wanted RIO to be enlightening and uplifting.’
