Room divider, shelf, or cabinet system? The new furniture range from interlübke is more: a variable gallery system for living at home to bring a new order to the most beautiful things in our lives – and invariably present them in the best possible light. In a different way every day if required, and a new surprise every time. Design: Gino Carollo & René Chyba. Winner of the interior innovation award 2012.
It started with the idea of a type case for the 21st century. The result is a creative synthesis of shelf and cabinet for Living 2.0. With bookless, the premium brand interlübke is once again presenting a cutting-edge furniture concept featuring multifunctional elements which supersedes the conventions of "settled" living. Its design reinterprets our everyday lives with books, media and showpieces in a surprising way – as an emotional showcase: furnishings, media and favourite items are put on show individually and no longer concealed. "For many people, the ebook is taking over from space-consuming encyclopaedias. Miniaturisation is replacing the monumental principle of our furnishings, and not only in the media segment," comments Leo Lübke, Managing Partner. "This is why we have transferred the idea of conventional, static storage space concepts into an elegant, mobile gallery system for living."
Furniture as an application?
How do we want to live? What forms the focal point today – or tomorrow? A total of thirteen wall and eight standing modules of bookless can be configured as sliding room dividers guided via a rail system, floor-to-ceiling shelving or floating wall elements. Continuous glass surfaces, minimal body depths and LED lighting create transparency and lightness. The wall clearance of the floating modules is 6 cm, which increases the surrounding cone of light and strengthens the three-dimensional effect of the furniture body at the same time. The pioneering furniture range incorporates practically any floor plan, integrates digital media systems and is equally suitable for the living and contract sectors. It is available in high-quality versions as high-gloss and matt lacquer (standard and custom colours) and in various veneers.
Elegant and functional
What is the special appeal of bookless? Its design impresses with aesthetics, high functionality, consummate finishing and a wide colour spectrum of matt and high-gloss lacquers: the celebrated quality of interlübke. Particularly fine material thicknesses (MDF body material 13.5 mm, outer coverings 8.5 mm) and glass back panels (4 mm) are used. Slender MDF thicknesses and device stoppers and bookends made of acrylic glass serve as interior dividers. A refined sliding door system has been developed for the floating glass doors (optiwhite clear glass or grey glass). All media, the LED lighting, constructive cables and series-connected electronics are discreetly integrated. The design and functional highlight? Sliding modules to separate different zones in the living and working areas! Aluminium profiles are used as a rail guide system for floors and ceilings and can be assembled consecutively. One of the many refinements: the ceiling rail can be adapted to uneven surfaces.
Is the future bookless?
Since its origins in 1937, the interlübke brand has stood for architecturally orientated furnishing concepts with high-quality system furniture," explains Leo Lübke. "In this digital age, our needs have changed enormously, we live more mobile, more flexible and more varied lives. Our new programme opens the door to this way of living." Nevertheless, bookless does not rule out a life with books and much-loved possessions: In the 20th century, our homes still served as a stage; today we can use them as an aesthetic display – for the things that we need at any given time and mean the most to us.
