Concept

Jens Quistgaard designed the Safari Chair in 1966. With its tapered cylindrical form, the chair is not only original in its expression, but also in its construction. Assembled without screws and brackets, the form is held together by inner tension, inspired by the sails on a ship. The distinctive Quistgaard Safari Chair is one of Jens Quistgaard’s most successful furniture designs. Many of his designs have been awarded numerous prizes and are part of the permanent collections at both the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Louvre in Paris.

MATERIAL
The Safari Chair is made from solid dark-stained oak and chromed steel frame. The upholstery is always black aniline leather. It is assembled only by the unique frame joints and without the use of any screws, bolts or tools. The wood sticks are fitted into the metal frame, and then the leather backrest is inserted to hold all the constituent parts together in tension.

COLOUR
Black/dark-stained oak
