Originally made in Italy from travertine stone, the table’s new edition marks the first time GamFratesi has worked with steel plates, which are galvanized, lacquered, and then treated with a series of hand-finishing processes to create a unique surface expression for each table. The table’s monolithic form remains, now with an industrial expression, in which a new detail can be discovered with every use.

An intense process of experimentation has resulted in the development of three lacquered steel colors: Midnight Black, Earthy Red and Misty Gray. These complement the travertine options of Neutral White, Vibrant Gray or Burnt Red. Each colorway gives away a hint of the next, providing a cohesive color scheme across the collection.

The varying heights and diameters within the Epic Table Collection mean a single monochromatic table can stand alone or be combined in dynamic clusters of varying material, height and color.

Concept

Named after the epic poems of ancient times, GamFratesi’s Epic Collection for GUBI are sculptural pieces of furniture inspired by Greek columns and Roman architecture. Made in Italy from travertine stone, the monolithic form emphasizes the materiality of the stone, the natural beauty of its veins, and the vibrant texture of its unique patina – in which a new detail can be discovered with every use.

Inspired by historical examples of travertine constructions such as the Colosseum and Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome, and the 1970s revival of the material in Southern Europe, the tables combine two simple geometric shapes, the circle and the hexagon, with references to the classical Greek column.

Stone options in Neutral White or colorful Burnt Red each create a focal point of differing intensity, bringing personality to private settings and naturalness and tactility to public interior spaces. The varying heights and diameters within the Epic Table Series mean a single monochromatic table can stand alone or be combined in dynamic clusters of varying height and color.
