Girsberger chairs have been a permanent fixture in the conference rooms at the Solothurn Office of Structural Engineering for many years. Given that the existing models are no longer being produced and because a number of them had reached the end of their life cycle despite a revamp, the office took an unusual approach to replenishing its stock. Beat Steinmann, architect and head of the Space and Property Management department, designed a chair that blended in well with the existing conference tables. Based on his drawings, Girsberger manufactured 100 copies of a unique chair design that offers a surprisingly high level of comfort despite its pared-down, streamlined appearance. Additional copies can be manufactured at any time, as and when required.
