Concept

Cast stone HIDROJARDINERA 900 and 620 models feature a large volume and sustainable design criteria. Their purpose is to provide a planter in which medium-height trees can grow in areas where they cannot be planted in the ground, while also facilitating their transportation without having to empty the planter. Both HIDROJARDINERAS have a square plan geometry but differ in height, passing from the image of a compact element resembling a cube to one with a lower, flatter and lighter appearance. HIDROJARDINERAS include a hydroponic irrigation system to minimize the volume and frequency of water use. The system consists of a water storage tank at the base with a relief valve to regulate the level, a polyvinyl separation layer perforated by hanks of cotton that suck up the water by capillary action and two vertical ventilation ducts for the water tank that emerge above the soil to prevent stagnation. HIDROJARDINERAS 900 and 620, designed by Enric Pericas in 1999, were developed as part of a collaboration agreement between Escofet and the Barcelona Municipal Parks and Gardens Institute, which also includes the development and design of the YARG cast aluminium tree surround.
