Concept

Located in Copenhagen, Norm Architects was started in 2008 by Danish designers Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and Kasper Rønn. They chose the name Norm to express their dedication to “working with Danish norms and standards refined over hundreds of years,” explains Bjerre-Poulsen, “rather than rejecting them in the endless search for new.” The sincerity of their approach – bypassing flashy design for good design – shows in the quality of their work. This ethos is beautifully demonstrated in the solid wood construction and easy-to-operate expansion mechanism of their Odin Extension Table (2013). One person can easily expand this table by unlocking the two circular latches, or “keepers,” and giving either end a gentle pull. Like magic, one half moves toward you as the other moves away thanks to an internal cable and smooth-gliding metal tracks with ball bearings. The butterfly leaf cleverly stored inside the table (no more “find the leaf” drama on holidays) easily unfolds into place. Depending on your chairs, The Odin Rectangular Extension Table expands to fit up to 10 people, and the Odin Round Extension Table expands to fit up to 8 people. Made in Malaysia.
