Concept

Poul Kjærholm's Writing desk and Professor desk were originally designed for the School of Architects at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1955. The Faculty needed new furniture. The students and teachers needed writing desks to work at and Poul Kjærholm was appointed chief designer of the project. Rud. Rasmussen had helped Kjærholm before, producing prototypes for some of his chairs. Now Kjærholm and Rud. Rasmussen joined forces to produce furniture for the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.

The tables covered a programme of frames in steel and tops in pinewood and Oregonpine. Different combinations of materials and colours were tested during the design process but the black, lacquered steel frame and top in Oregonpine was eventually chosen.

Today the table is available in black, lacquered steel frame and top in Oregonpine that can be reversed. The top is oil-treated.
