Austere-Wall built-in
Architonic ID: 20101062
Year of Launch: 2016
This design from lighting designer Hans Verstuyft won the Henry van de Velde award in 2015. The AUSTERE is gracious, clearly practical. Its beam of light is like a Chinese lantern, a small and simple lamp that feels natural in any location.
The construction of this light fitting is subtle and practical. The AUSTERE fits in everywhere be it a kitchen, reading area or bedroom. A classic in a modern interior or a modern touch adding to a classic design. Suited for ceiling, table, wall and floor in models that all display the same elegance.
Concept
The essence of light. A graceful gesture, pure in form, clear in function. A bell of light reminiscent of a Chinese lantern, a small and simple lamp. It gets a specific character that seems to feel at home anywhere. The power of simplicity makes it a natural object but with a mysterious stratification.
The construction of the armature is subtle and functional. With a limited number of parts, varied models are available for ceiling, table, wall and floor, giving each model the same finesse.

Hans Verstuyft Architects was founded in 1992. Our projects are various in scale and program as we look for challenging assignments, which we love to study. Our work is based on the specific conditions each project has. The result is an analysis of these conditions: program, surroundings, budget, users, light,...but also more subjective elements like feeling, warmth, comfort, touch, sensuality. We want to include in our projects a way of life, and not only a rational solution. Our way of thinking architecture might be seen as traditional in a way that we don't want to make fashionable buildings. We think architecture is to last, and to give living new opportunities for each generation. Future buildings must have a soul that inspires the users and invites them to live in. Our inspiration is to think sober, to reduce. We see the same in fashion, dance, art. Sober works often have a strong appearance.
