Industrial lampshade, turned into a playful, dynamic lighting feature
Röthlisberger Kollektion is shining the spotlight on Rio de Janeiro this summer. As an official supplier of the House of Switzerland Brazil 2016, we are launching Block 2 «Rio Edition» – the designer lamp that combines the best of Swiss craftsmanship with Brazilian cheerfulness. The special surface coating of the lamp playfully reflects the colours of the waters around Copacabana Beach, the lush vegetation of the Brazilian rainforest and the gold shimmer of the Olympic games.
The special pigments in the coating create a magical interplay of colours that constantly change, depending on the viewing angle and the influences of the ambient light. The frame is a combination of steamed acacia struts, held together with colour-matched custom aluminium brackets and blackened Tolix screws. The shades are spun in aluminium to replicate the original industrial lampshade. Block 2 makes use of an E27 socket. This allows easy replacement of the lighting source with commercially available light bulbs or smart globes. Concept
The design of BLOCK 2 turns the classic industrial lampshade into a playful, dynamic lighting feature – encasing it in a geometric timber frame. The unique icosahedron frame allows the light to be positioned on one of 20 bases, providing versatile light play in any room. The product’s name rises from the warehouse in which the original shade was found – BLOCK 2. Neither a pendant, nor conventional floor lamp, BLOCK 2 can be stacked or arranged in countless ways to suit any space.
