The Gauss modern wood writing desk features a curved, fluid top with no sharp edges, much like the legs, which take on the appearance of metal rings with rounded corners. The distinguishing feature of Gauss is the raised section, which creates a second level for the desk. In addition to the main desk top in wood, Gauss also offers a practical “floating” shelf made from ceramics, which is attached to the main desk via two metal bars. Gauss’s other unique detail is the shape of the legs, which stand in a dynamic, asymmetrical position, creating an irregular structure which lends a youthful, casual quality to the desk. In addition, the veining in the wood of the desk top adds dynamism, increasing the desk’s aesthetic impact. One possibility for customisation is the addition of a concealed round drawer in painted metal.

Mauro Lipparini graduated in 1980 from the University of Florence’s Department of Architecture where he has also been a faculty member. A leader and innovator in the style that has been called “natural minimalism,” Lipparini is a winner of the Young & Design Milano (Italy 1987) and International Du Pont Award Köln (Germany 1988 and 1989) international design competitions. Lipparini’s extensive work in the field of industrial design includes home and office furnishings, textiles, and other products created for a host of renowned European and Japanese firms. In the realms of architecture and interior design, Lipparini has concentrated primarily on private and public housing, retail and wholesale showrooms, and exposition installations.
