Segnature | Foglio Corteccia

Segnature is the name of Cristina Celestino’s second collection for CEDIT – Ceramiche d’Italia, following the success of Policroma. An ancient word rich in poetic and symbolic references, Segnature was historically used, beyond its typographic and editorial applications, to describe the forms, colors, and external features through which a plant revealed its healing properties.

True to this evocative heritage, the collection becomes an exercise in revelation, where the decorative element is not ornamental, but instead becomes a coded language, etched into and through the material itself.

Drawing inspiration from the regular textures of crepe paper and the delicate veins of plant life—particularly their foliage—Segnature explores, through the density of porcelain stoneware, the relationship between mark and surface, gesture and substance. It constructs a visual grammar of textures—subtle, almost intangible—originating from an attentive observation of nature, reinterpreted through a design lens that combines precision and lyricism.

The patterns and movements that define the surfaces intersect within a visual grid, generating a play of imperceptible perceptual shifts. The result is a dynamic depth a porcelain surface whose originality is revealed through both touch and sight.

Cristina Celestino’s signature approach is evident throughout: a delicate balance of respect and inventiveness, transforming poetic suggestions into functional, tangible forms. As is often the case in her work, the smallest detail—the finest mark—becomes the generative element of a broader design statement, almost resonating with a kind of sound. In this sense, Segnature is a choral composition of light modulations, where every tile is a segment in a score, ready to be read, touched, and brought to life.

In Celestino’s vision, industrial porcelain becomes an evocative surface, capable of capturing light, suggesting gestures, and shaping interiors with restraint and depth. With this project, she takes another step in her journey of refined experimentation, reaffirming design’s power as a sophisticated form of spatial storytelling.
