Concept
As a chair company, Emeco has often been asked about tables that fit our different seating collections and reflect our values – tables that are timeless, made of responsibly selected, sustainable materials, right for use and engineered to last. Sam Hecht and Kim Colin, designers of the simple and nononsense, have made their first collaboration with Emeco to satisfy a multitude of uses at home, for hospitality or in the workplace. Meet Run.
FOR ONE AND FOR ALL
When Emeco began working with Sam Hecht and Kim Colin, we talked about creating a furniture collection that brings people together, to suit the way we would like to eat, study, play and work, whether indoors or out. The result is Run – a collection of tables, benches and shelves, inspired by the collective congenial atmosphere around public furniture like canteen tables, park benches and library shelves. Like these, Run feels natural for one to use and many to share.
“Run effortlessly finds balance in both indoor and outdoor landscapes suited for meeting, eating, learning, sharing and working. Run is shaped to acknowledge the benefits of being around others, so tables are welcoming and useful, made to work purposefully well with many of Emeco’s existing chairs and stools, including the original Navy Chair.”
Sam Hecht, Industrial Facility, London
LONG-SHORT; HIGH-LOW; IN-OUT
Run can be used indoors or out, with lengths between 2400mm and 830mm, in sitting or standing heights. The collection has a restrained materials palette: Structural elements are made of extruded, non-corroding recycled aluminium in either natural or powder coated black. Plank surfaces are available in anodized aluminum, suitable for use both indoor and outdoors, or 3 types of responsibly harvested wood. Cedar is suitable for outdoor use; ash and walnut for indoor use. Wood planks are made by Amish craftsmen in nearby Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
“With Run, Sam Hecht and Kim Colin have designed a collection of “pure utility.” Whether long or short, high or low, inside or outside, Run is a system that provides an architect or designer an adaptable tool that works for any application.”
Gregg Buchbinder, CEO, Emeco

Industrial Facility is a design office formed by designer Sam Hecht and architect Kim Colin in 2002. The studio follows a rigorous path of investigation and analysis in its work. Its belief is in the importance of design as a means of simplifying our lives in an inspirational way. Sam Hecht is probably best known for his contribution to the development of technically demanding projects for Muji, for which he has produced over 50 products and where he is currently Design Advisor for Europe. Other recent collaborations include the ‘Twice’ clock and ‘Once’ watch for Lexon France, the FlexLamp for Droog and the ‘Equipment’ project for Whirlpool (2004). For Epson Japan he has produced a DVD/LCD projector (2004) and the third generation Picturemate printer (2006), both of which have been awarded a G-mark from Japan, and an IF Gold Award from Germany. In total, Hecht and Industrial Facility have earned themselves over 30 design awards in the past few years.
