The Colibrì high-backed armchair looks like it is light-weight, yet at the same time it appears to have an imposing presence in any space. This armchair has a generous seat that comfortably welcomes its guests and envelops them with its large backrest. The oversize seat and backrest are supported by an apparently slender base to create an interesting game of balances. The five-spoke swivel base lends the overall image lightness and motion, recalling that idea of "comfort without gravity" conceived by the designer. The special padding of the seat and the backrest emphasises the sense of softness and comfort already guaranteed by the laminated fabric upholstery that adds volume to the figure. Also available in the Colibrì soft version, with softer shapes, for endless comfort.
Perfect for the dining area, the Colibrì chair, available as a fabric dining room chair or in leather, renews the balance between the parts that distinguish it. The thin metal structure of the base highlights the welcoming volume of the seat/backrest: a large “shell” with raised edges and generous proportions that offers “comfort without gravity”, giving body to the essential image from which the design by Fabrice Berrux emerges. The working of the padded surface highlights the detail of the parallel-stitched seams which run along the entire length of the upholstery.

Berrux, a graduate of the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Dijon, founded Societe 18 Août, a design studio that creates quirky and unusual objects, in the late 1980s. His designs for Roche Bobois include the FLOWER, an homage to Andy Warhol and HOT-COLD table mats inspired by Land Art. In 1991, Berrux helped to establish lighting design company Dix Heures Dix which has provided products for art gallery shops all over the world and has exhibited at the musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Fabrice Berrux has developed some of Roche Bobois's most distinctive lighting ranges, including those made using innovative materials and techniques such as pleated fabric, altuglass resin and bulbs that can completely alter the ambiance of a space.
