Ein Vulkangebiet mitten in Deutschland. Ruhend, aber nicht erloschen. Durch den Ausbruch des Laacher-See-Vulkans vor gerade einmal 13.000 Jahren entstand im Landkreis Mayen-Koblenz die jüngste Landschaft Deutschlands.
Unsere Mayener Basaltlava entstand vor 200.000 Jahren und ist verwitterungsbeständig und frostfest. Das Ergussgestein wirkt durch den offenporigen, vulkanischen Charakter puristisch, auffällig unauffällig und kommt wegen seiner edlen Zurückhaltung gerne zum Einsatz- auch im Kölner Dom.
