Bees are a fascinating example of cooperative behavior and collective intelligence in nature. The busy insects use hexagonal structures, for example, to make optimum use of the space available for their honeycombs. The hexagonal shapes fit together perfectly: not only is no space wasted, but the thermal insulation of the beehive is also ensured.

Helgoland by Artemide is directly inspired by this ingenious construction principle: the design by Carlotta de Bevilacqua is an ideally balanced ceiling light made up of compact, hexagonal elements. The power distribution of the LEDs makes a decisive contribution to the excellent energy balance: All the optical cells connected to form a network work together to increase the density of the luminous flux. The honeycomb structure ensures that the distances between the lenses are smaller and therefore no multiple shadows occur. This results in perfect, uniform light emission without any shadows.

Thanks to the patented refractive technology, Helgoland also proves to be highly efficient: the specially developed lens captures 100 percent of the light beam emitted by the LED and only emits it again with minimal losses. This achieves an extraordinary efficiency of more than 90 percent. The light archipelago can easily be used in different versions: The LED modules are available as surface-mounted and recessed ceiling luminaires as well as spotlights for the Sylt lighting system in various colors. The low height of just 12.5 mm enables flexible ceiling installation. The light unit is magnetically connected to the housing, making maintenance simple and straightforward.

Thanks to the Artemide app, Helgoland is easy to control- and proves to be extremely sustainable, not least due to its low energy consumption and a consistent reduction in material, total surface area and weight.
