Designing sustainable buildings means more than just environmental consideration. It's also about creating long-life, adaptable spaces where people feel well and want to be. Office projects are no exception. But how to marry workers' needs, against the backdrop of rapidly changing work cultures and behaviours, with architecture as a rhetorical expression of a company or an organisation's brand?

Let’s dance

Don’t be fooled by Thonet’s new 1140 table by Werner Aisslinger. Despite its understated, simple elegance, it’s sturdy enough to withstand application in a broad variety of contexts, from the home to coworking spaces and other contract sector locations – after all, one of Aisslinger’s goals was for users to be ‘able to dance on it’.

The 1140’s solid-oak legs have a gently rounded outer edge and lie flush with the tabletop. It comes in four lengths ranging from 1 to 2.4 m, and connecting elements in polished aluminium, powder-coated anthracite grey, or customised colours.

Versatility and visual appeal are not its only benefits, however. The 1140 table uses minimal component and FSC-certified wood meaning it’s also a strong performer when it comes to sustainability. Care to dance, anyone? Read more
