About Time & Style
MORE ABOUT TIME & STYLE
Time & Style established the company in 1990, offering a wide range of product, from furniture, lighting equipment, tableware, to small accessories. These are all original products created from the consistent concept of the company.
In 2008, Time & Style’s own factory in Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan, was set up to pursue the essential nature of manufacturing. Nine years later, Time & Style set a sawmill and timber dryer and start buying raw wood from the domestic forest. All the processes are under care, from the design and production to the sales in their own stores. The products are manufactured in their own factory, as well as subcontract factories across Japan, and each product is carefully manufactured with the full attention of the artisans. The delicate finish delivers the warmth of materials directly through the five senses, which is beyond the ability of machines. Leaving traces of handwork and sensibility in the finish is the fundamental essence in creating global value from Japan.
Many traditional industries remain throughout Japan. This country has the wisdom about living and craft based on the beliefs that have been accumulated by many of our forerunners, and Time & Style tries to reconsider the unique traditional Japanese culture. Especially, retranslating the essence of Japanese traditional value into modern lifestyle is one of the themes to create products. Time & Style works with over 100 artisans to produce high-end products with the craft traditions such as, sand casting, Japanese washi paper, wood working, ceramic, porcelain, glass. The collaborated work with many rural manufacturers and artisans throughout Japan creates Time & Style’s product collection.
When it comes to design, Time & Style put importance on the idea appreciate the beautiful textures, which materials already have, focusing on the true nature of functionality and craftmanship. Design is one of the approaches to derive fundamental values from elements of “function, technique and material”. Time & Style is aiming to design products in the universal forms, which cut out unnecessary parts, with the line coexisting softness and sense of tension. Time & Style keeps creating honest and beautiful products for daily life, which can be valued in various lifestyles for long time beyond ages, cultures, personal tastes, as well.
The experience and knowledge from the development of original Time & Style products helps to commercialize the furniture with interior designers and architects. After the several years’ projects with Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, Time & Style commercialized a wide range of furniture collection designed by himself. The architect can create the interior space and building under the same concept with his own designed furniture. Time & Style has been collaborating with many interior designers and architects.
