It was in the winter of ’92 that Kris Van Puyvelde and Frank Boschman ran into each other again. That was some years after they first met, when studying for engineer in Antwerp Belgium. Both eager to start their own business, they came up with the idea of importing some teak outdoor furniture from Indonesia. They were about to find out that most of the stuff on the market however was poor quality , colonial style furniture. Just importing was therefore not an option , but doing better on design and on quality, and starting their own line, turned out a much more attractive idea and a real challenge. Not many days later both of them were sitting at the notary’s desk to found their company. They came up with the name Royal Botania ; an allusion to both the natural beauty of lush botanic gardens, and the matching supreme, “royal class” furniture, they were about to create. Even though in the early days the full focus was on teak furniture, the fusion of superb quality and refreshing designs made this range an immediate hit. Doors were opening up in many countries, and within soon the brand name gained international admiration and respect. This success gave a boost to the company, resulting in not just new garden furniture ranges , but moreover in the birth of an outdoor lighting collection , and a bathroom furniture line. Obviously the Royal Botania team grew as spectacular. The introduction of new materials such as stainless steel, aluminum and synthetic fibers added even more momentum to this growth.
