We utilise the advantages of latest OLED and LED technologies and combine them with forward-looking manufacturing methods so as to harmonise the optimal light quality with the respective domestic application.

emdedesign was founded in 2013 by Thomas Emde, manager and creative director of the development company.

The company’s products convince through a clear, reduced design-oriented attitude and highest technical standards. emdedesign’s interdisciplinary team is made up of designers and engineers and creates technical solutions and innovations through an examination of light. Their goal is to design light solutions that en­able and respect a person’s well-being. Con­scious material use and cautious handling with the effect of light play an important role. For the brand OMLED, minimalistic lights were developed incorporating the latest OLED and LED technologies, which significantly contrib­utes to the technical development in OLED’s fields of applications. Under the creative su­pervision of Thomas Emde, emdedesign’s development team has accounted for various large-scale projects of artistic, national as well as international illuminations – from sketch to realisation.

Projects such as the architecture illumination for the Commerzbank Tower and the Kaiserdom in Frankfurt or the Tornado Tower and the gov­ernment palace in Doha, Qatar are especially well-known.

For the manufacturing of our lighting families OMLED we rely on a completely new tech­nology within the light industry. The luminaire‘s case is circuit board and control element in one and made of glass. We have achieved this by way of a novel manufacturing process devel­oped and patented in Germany. For this, con­ducting paths, electronic elements, contacts and a circuit for dimming the light are integrat­ed onto the high-quality white glass. Thus, a conventional circuit board becomes unneces­sary and the luminaire‘s panel thickness can be considerably reduced.

The material glass is one of the oldest basic materials of humankind and has been in use continuously for many millennia. With an almost infinite life span, and produced from natural resources that are accessible in nature in un­limited measures, it offers endless application possibilities.

For us, glass, with its wonderful and versatile character traits, is the perfect material for a high-grade light medium while taking over the functions of a circuit board with integrated user interface and enabling a sustainable and envi­ronmentally compatible manufacturing.
