Profile
Based in an upcycled shipping container in Elephant & Castle, South London, the Furniss & May studio is a hub of creativity. Unpretentious and eclectic, the space combines use of industrial and man made materials. Recycled floor boards made from oak are used as desks, a bespoke cast concrete bar is used for an informal meeting area and a 3 metre storage unit and herringbone layout area has been created from 10 recycled shipping palettes.
Located in The Artworks along side other local young businesses and restaurants, it’s a perfect creative space for the growing business hub in Elephant & Castle and provides an affordable zone 1 address.
OUR STORY
After spending a combined 39 years in the industry, we felt the time was right for a new kind of design agency, one where...
- small details are more important than big words;
- designers create and computers translate;
- no budget is too small and no challenge too great.
So we set one up and put our names on it.
OUR APPROACH
In our approach to design we focus on the desired emotional response and work backwards. Throughout a project we apply a number of simple yet valuable principles that underpin our approach to the design process.

JAYNE FURNISS
Jayne’s intuition to eat breathe and sleep design has helped her to forge deep and trusting relationships with her clients which results in design schemes that benefit from great insight and collaboration.
A sense of adventure has seen Jayne travel the globe with a desire to experience the new and unusual. This spirit of freedom and willingness to challenge the status quo makes Jayne a passionate and committed design leader with flair and inspiration.
SIMON MAY
Simon’s passion is to create memorable and inspiring spaces. He brings imagination and professionalism to every project he touches. With a calm and considered approach, clients instantly put their trust in Simon to bring their vision to life. With a degree in furniture design Simon’s incredible attention to detail allows him to effortlessly design unique environments for clients that also function beautifully. Simon regularly takes part in London’s Retail Design Expo as an expert speaking about retail design.
