MORE ABOUT SOLISOMBRA
COMPANY
Although the company as such started business in 2008, the owner embarked upon this project with the backing of a solid expertise and the organizational skills acquired over the course of her fifteen years of professional experience, mainly within the business group that her father founded, whose management she was intensely involved in and committed to. During this time she acquired knowledge and skills that have been extremely valuable for this subsequent stage as an entrepreneur, such as factory management and the operation of each department, sales and relations with foreign subsidiaries, the task of managing teams, carrying out product quality studies and acquiring an in-depth knowledge of the materials employed, as well as R+D+i, human resources management and logistics. The family business focused on highly demanding industrial technology sectors, and because of this, the founder of Solisombra has a special inclination towards the world of design, innovation and modernity. These interests led her to take the step to create her own company within a sector in which her ample experience could be put to use and in which there would also be room for creativity, beauty and art, launching a line of the company’s own products, chiefly oriented towards creating elements that enable us to enjoy nature.
In line with this approach the trade name Solisombra was registered. Solisombra is, a play on the words “sun and shade”, and also the name of a well-known Spanish cocktail, but above all it reflects the main objective of the project: a concept of interiors and exteriors as one whole, without separations or discriminatory considerations. To achieve this goal, not only does she have the firm backing and support of her family and friends but is also surrounded by a team of senior professionals and young talents with managerial skills as well as experts in the transformation and production of the different materials that are used in the end product. The first Solisombra collections will be presented at the Hábitat Valencia 2010 international show.
MISSION
Solisombra’s goal is to create outdoor spaces that, as a whole, are special and different; spaces in which life, feelings, desires and dreams flourish. This is an imposing challenge which they are determined to achieve. And to do so, they use a variety of materials and processes: the always-essential, warm, elegant wood, timeless metals, colourful plastics, all of which are combined in perfect harmony to create unique environments in which the customer can forge his/her own space, enjoying it and experiencing all of the good things that open-air spaces can offer us, whether a patio or a garden, living with nature comfortably and erasing the fine line that separates indoors from outdoors. “We have to be capable of reencountering Nature and for this purpose we create complements and accessories that enable us to feel and experience our natural environment”. This company, formed by a team with wide-ranging professional experience in highly demanding technological sectors, has developed its own, totally innovative product line for which it is creating a network of distributors at national and international level.
MATERIALS
Solisombra presents a collection of structural elements using materials that aim to cover and “dress” outdoor spaces, both as building materials and decorative complements for the outdoor furniture that can currently be found on the market. The innovative aspect of these materials, apart from their aesthetic appearance, is that they contribute to environmental sustainability and enable us to play around with shapes and colours. Amongst the materials used are:
PLASTIC: High-density polyethylene (HDPE) formed into sheets ready for machining. This material has UV stabilizing agents and the nature of the material itself makes it resistant to the attack of acids, alkalis, solvents and graffiti. Average thickness is between 10 and 15 mm.
Thickness for benches and tables: 20 mm
Thickness for tiles: 15 mm
Technical data
Density g/cm3 ISO 1183 0.95
Tensile strength N/mm2 ISO 527-1 23
Elongation strength % ISO 527-1 10
Elongation to break % >50
E modulus Mpa ISO 527-1 800
Fire resistance DIN 4102 B2
LACQUERED GALVANISED IRON: Structures and supports are made of iron coated with zinc and lacquered, making them highly resistant to corrosion and abrasion.
STAINLESS STEEL: the stainless steel used in some metal components is AISI316 austenitic steel suitable for marine environments.
GLASS FIBRE: Panels pressed with coloured resin and painted on both faces. This material is highly resistant to corrosion and extreme weather conditions. The average thickness of the products that are made with this product is between 4 and 6 mm.
IROKO WOOD: Semi-hard African wood that is highly resistant. It is used, above all, for outdoor applications.
Density Kg/m3 650
Static bending strength Kg/cm2 955
E-modulus Mpa 1000
Compressive strength Kg/cm2 540
The varnishes and lacquers used do not contain heavy metals, in compliance with the regulations currently in force.
Thanks to the modular design of our collections, ad hoc structures can be created using standard elements: porches, pergolas, fencing, walkways etc. Everything and anything that you can imagine. Furthermore Solisombra offers you the possibility of designing or personalising items outside the collection, adjusting and combining sizes, colours and materials.
