Original BTC’s Magnus collection captures the poetry of transformation. Taking its name from magma, the collection explores the movement of molten glass as it shifts from fluid to form. Each shade, hand-blown at the company’s Oxfordshire glassworks, is an expression of that process – rounded, luminous and subtly ribbed to recall the moment material responds to gravity before solidifying.
Set against a blackened bronze frame, the opal shades seem to hover in mid-air. Their soft radiance contrasts with the precision of the metalwork, creating a sculptural balance between lightness and strength. The collection is offered in a range of compositions, including linear pendants with two, three or four lights and intersecting designs with four or six, suitable for everything from intimate kitchens to open living spaces. Each configuration has been designed to maintain its elegance from every angle, even when viewed from above.

Director Charlie Bowles describes the inspiration: 'When glass emerges from the crucible, it flows like honey, responding to gravity before taking shape in the mould. Magnus is about capturing that exact instant when something fluid becomes defined.' That sensibility runs through the design, from the gentle curvature of the shades to the way they rest within the frame, held but never constrained.
Magnus reflects Original BTC’s wider philosophy of craft-led modernity. Every component is made locally, using time-honoured techniques adapted for contemporary production. The glass is blown by hand, the metalwork fabricated and finished in small workshops near the brand’s Oxfordshire base. The result is lighting that feels elemental yet engineered, honest yet refined.

In Magnus, molten glass becomes more than material – it becomes a meditation on process. Each pendant captures the balance between motion and stillness, strength and fragility, craftsmanship and design. The collection embodies the quiet power of making by hand in a world shaped by the mechanical.
