Starting by removing the previous tenant’s cladding material of the Toby’s Estate Messila branch, we discovered the building is enveloped in beige travertine, which led this design to be an exercise in preservation. After polishing the remaining facade stone, a semitransparent second skin from a custom-made mesh was designed to illuminate the original building structure and showcase its history. The interior space language is informed by the weight of the building, anchoring the heavy large stone benches and metal central bar to create the space circulation.
