Arashiyama

Forests occupy about 70% of Japan’s land, and among those, 40% are artificial forests. From the perspective of environmental conservation, deforestation is said to result in global warming, but that does not apply to Japan’s artificial forests. The procedure of afforestation, thinning, and transplantation is made to cycle by the hands of people, and in doing so, the forests are protected. And by making effective use of the thinned trees, the forest industry is revitalized, creating an ideal cycle of artificial forests.

Arashiyama uses domestic timber, and its design is inspired by trees that grow straight in the forest. Both sides can be used, so it can be used to separate spaces as well. We think that in the future, lifestyle spaces in which people can feel trees’ warmth and value their involvement with nature will be necessary.
