Strata vase is designed for outdoor/indoor use and features a unique finish that can only be achieved with concrete as a base material. The inner part is oxide-treated steel, 5mm thick, finished with a transparent varnish suitable for vase use.
Each piece is unique and different, holding onto the design concept. It was a construction challenge for us, and we loved it from the first moment when it was still an idea. We developed special production techniques to approach such a natural appearance.
Through the nature of concrete, this object acquires its character; the passage of time will leave its footstep which will enhance its beauty even further.
Ideal for commercial or residential spaces, it is available in a cold and warm color palette.
Strata series was designed by CTRLZAK for the Urbi et Orbi Medius Terra collection.
It is inspired by natural geological formations (stratification).. It captures sedimentation, erosion, and volcanic activity through stacked layers, symbolizing the passage of time. The design is inspired by the Mediterranean region’s diverse landscapes and geological phenomena. The overlapping layers of mineral compositions represent the geological history of the Mediterranean and our planet. Strata encourages reflection on our perception of time through geology and the natural world.
This concrete vase is produced through our company’s Zero Waste Project developed over the past 3 years, with a recycling rate of 20%.

Profile CTRLZAK is a hybrid studio that integrates different disciplines and cultures. The founders, Katia Meneghini and Thanos Zakopoulos, are both artists and designers in their own right. The Italian-Greek duo’s creations are inspired by their travels and experiences around the world and by their own rich cultural backgrounds. The studio creates artworks, objects and spaces but– above all– situations where people can come together in order to make what really matters: human relations. CTRLZAK's projects and extensive research into tradition and cultural context create a new hybrid future by learning from the past. Each project is a story waiting to be told, with a multitude of forms and endings. Each one experiments with diverse methods of narration where irony and symbolism go beyond aesthetics and functionality, in order to activate mechanisms of reflection. Biography Katia Meneghini Katia Meneghini was born in 1981 in Cittadella, Italy. Passionate about calligraphy and art history, she works developing relational processes and mechanisms which place emphasis on human interaction. She researches and creates using the methodology gained in exploiting relational processes and procedures to investigate the possibility of a multi-disciplinary design related to different aspects of social life. Thanos Zakopoulos Thanos Zakopoulos is a creator of varied forms and contexts. An artist, a designer and a photographer amongst other things, he likes to bring together different disciplines and situations creating projects which balance between contemporary art & design. He has presented and participated in many exhibitions around the world and has given lectures in various occasions in Europe and China. When not in Milan -where he is based- his research trips take him to strange places sometimes as far as to infinity and beyond.
