The M10 chair, suspended between innovation and tradition
A constructive challenge
The light and balanced design of the M10 chair is seemingly simple and inviting. However, behind this refined chair there is an important project challenge that Patrick Norguet and the Cassina R&D
Department have intensely worked on, researching materials and technical characteristics to guarantee maximum stability and durability.
A surprising structure enhanced by Cassina’s know-how in wood workmanship
The body of the M10 chair is suspended with elegant indifference, yet behind this technical magic there is an innovative and complex work process which has revolutionized the typical constructive workmanship of the classic chair.
Suspended on an upside down Y shape, a distinctive sign for Patrick Norguet’s work which follows on from the P22 lounge chair, the skillful use of wood enhances Cassina’s long held heritage in carpentry. The thin wooden legs, which continue into the profile of the armrests to create a warm and sophisticated contrast with the chair’s upholstery, are supported by an interior metal body which acts as the stable core of the structure. The chair’s slightly padded form welcomes the body in a warm and comfortable embrace.
“Through its stunning architecture, I wanted to create the impression of an unstable position, porte-àfaux. This spectacular and delicate balance is the result of the technical prowess and the quality of dialogue with Cassina.” Patrick Norguet
