Profile Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren are the members of the Swedish design group Front. Their works are based on common discussions, explorations and experiments and they collaborate in all projects from initial ideas to the final product. Front’s design objects often communicate a story to the observer about the design process, about the material it is made of or about conventions within the design field. In their work they have assigned part of the making of design to animals, computers or machines. They have made a constantly changing interior, created objects with explosions, robotic furniture and a range of furniture inspired by their fascination with magic.

Design Research Studio is an interior design practice specializing in high concept interiors, large scale installations and architectural design. Based in London and under the creative direction of internationally renowned designer Tom Dixon, our team realise a full and developed narrative to each project; whether in retail, hospitality or corporate interiors. Working directly with manufacturers and with access to a global supplier network, Design Research Studio are able to employ raw industrial processes and forms giving distinctive character to a space combined with true custom made design. Working with our in house product development team, Design Research Studio has detailed knowledge of production methods, lead times, materials and finishes as well as having the capacity to create large quantities of custom items. By interpreting a project in its purist form and the meaning of the building within its environment, our team is well known for connecting the design to the building or interior to the local area, its community and target audience. For Shoreditch House located at the top of an old biscuit factory, Design Research Studio evolved the successful Soho House brand to suit the Shoreditch audience whilst maintaining the historic qualities of the Biscuit Building. Our vision was to create a design that preserved the rawness of the building intrinsic to maintaining a sense of place. Since its inception in 2002, Design Research Studio has been involved in global commissions in the UK, Continental Europe, The Middle East and Asia. Recent projects include the newly opened Paramount Club in the top three floors of Centrepoint, an iconic London landmark and Shoreditch House, the latest addition to Nick Jones’ series of clubs. Other iconic spaces include a temporary installation for Sony Playstation, the London Design Embassy in the London ICA, Habitat Regent’s Street, which won at the Conde Nast Traveller Innovation and Design Awards: Best Retail Design in April 2007, Tokyo Hipsters Club and Oliver Peyton’s restaurant ‘Inn at the Park.’
Über Tom Dixon
We Design, Develop and Sell Extraordinary Objects and Spaces for Everyday Use.
The latest chapter of Tom’s design journey began in 2002 when he left corporate life to create his own eponymous brand as a platform for a series of new adventures in the design of products and interiors. 15 years on TOM DIXON is now a widely celebrated global force in interior design with our own hubs in New York, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles and Tokyo. Our 600 products range from lighting to furniture, from tableware through to fragrance and are distributed in over 65 countries; they are instantly recognizable for their sculptural qualities and engineered materiality.
Our interior architecture facility, Design Research Studio, conceives the interiors and exteriors of tomorrow. Rich in narrative, we nurture a fast-growing international portfolio that ranges from hospitality and retail to co-working spaces and monumental complexes.
Tom is a restless innovator who works mainly in lighting, accessories and furniture. From his departure point in the early eighties welding salvaged steel into radical furniture, he has constantly reinvented himself through a series of different design lives – working with luxury Italian goods with Cappellini, Creative Director at Habitat and Artek, creating Plastics company Eurolounge and finally instigating his own eponymous brand in 2002 to rethink the product designer’s relationship with industry.
