MYMITO – designed for joy

Cubit is a modular, premium-quality shelving system – a shelving system without rules. The team behind the sophisticated design is headed by interior designer Minou Farkhondeh and entrepreneur Thomas Reichel. Their success story began in Düsseldorf in 2006, when the two creatives radically reimagined the concept of storage space. Individual modules called Bits for Living permit the creation of customised pieces of Cubit furniture that can be changed again at any time – depending entirely on the wants and needs of the user, who slips into the role of designer as a result.

In 2014, the shelf modules in different colours, heights, widths and depths were joined by a sofa system. In collaboration with designer Olaf Schroeder, the Cubit team transferred the simple but revolutionary vision of freely combinable modules to upholstered furniture. Thanks to their backgrounds in different disciplines, Farkhondeh and Reichel were able to contribute a constructive dose of pioneering spirit – a new, fresh way of thinking about furniture. 'The building block principle has been copied a lot over the years and it’s hard to imagine the world of modern interiors without it any more,' says Reichel. 'But Cubit systems are still unique thanks to our high standards of quality, the continuous optimisation of our products and a steadily growing range.'

An established design classic

The modular furniture systems stand out for the consistency of their sophisticated aesthetic and their straightforward, timeless design language. They have long since established themselves as design classics and blend in naturally with any interior. On top of that, the Cubit shelving and sofa systems harmonise with one another perfectly.

'Even though there are a lot more items in our range today, uncomplicated design is still the basis of our concept,' says Thomas Reichel. 'But that doesn’t mean that furniture has to be cool and functional – on the contrary. Thanks to the infinite configuration options and a wide choice of surfaces, anything is possible with Cubit, from architectonic simplicity all the way to pure joie de vivre.' Minou Farkhondeh has created an ingenious and versatile colour concept for the systems – a palette of smart colours and patterns that underscores the uniqueness of every Cubit furniture arrangement.

Conserving resources and materials is extremely important to Minou Farkhondeh and Thomas Reichel, as is ensuring fair conditions for suppliers and their own staff: 'That’s why we produce our products in Germany and the EU. Not just out of consideration for the environment, but also because individual furniture ought to give its owners a lifetime of joy. That’s why we’re committed to ensuring that Cubit meets high standards of quality that will survive multiple moves.' It was therefore a logical step for the furniture maker to establish its own upholstery company in East Westphalia, where all Cubit sofas are now made.

'Short transport distances, direct quality control and a tradition of craftsmanship – those values add up to products that are the same on the inside as their outward appearance promises,' says Reichel. 'For us, made in Germany means that we know who plays a part in making our furniture, right down to the last detail. That also means we’re able to fulfil special requests, no matter how elaborate they are. Together with our team of experienced interior designers, upholsters and industrial sewers, we’re taking the next major step in our evolution and launching our second brand: Mymito. The Cubit systems stand for a straightforward design language defined by cubic clarity. With Mymito, we can reimagine furniture design in a totally free and unconventional way.'
