A question of balance: Inspired by skateboarding, to-swift brings movement to the workplace. The stand-sit stool from Trendoffice is designed to encourage less rational, more flexible thinking
What do skateboarders and office workers have in common? At first glance, perhaps not much. On the other hand, some skateboarder work in an office too, and, additionally, a good sense of balance is imperative for steering work projects, like a skateboard, in the right direction.
Inspired by sporty youth culture, Italian design trio comprising Paolo Scagnellato, Jeremiah Ferrarese and Emanuele Bertolini have created a stand-up/sit-down stool for the Trendoffice brand from the Dauphin HumanDesign Group. ‘to-swift is a seat which adapts to changes in posture, is active and dynamic and arouses curiosity’, explain the designers.

However, to-swift does not simply adapt to changes in posture. The stool specifically promotes mobility. It increases agility, for less rational, more flexible thinking. ‘Just as a skateboarder always tries to free themself from any thoughts, to feel free to act in the space they move in, to maintain balance and orientation,’ the designers say.
Thanks to its rocker function and intuitive height adjustment, the light and comfortably upholstered stool can be used in numerous office situations: at the desk, in informal meetings or as a stand-up/sit-down opportunity in compact office boxes such as bosselino from Bosse.

This pandemic year has not just shown how enormously important flexible thinking and acting is in everyday working life. Mobile working continues to increase, which is all the more reason for the office to remain an irreplaceable place of co-creation and identity building for companies – no matter how comfortable the home you skateboard back to every day may be.
