Just how much things can change in 30 years can be clearly seen in the history of fashion and design. Only a few visionaries manage to outlive trends with their timeless creations, while simultaneously treading confident, new design paths. People like Dieter Sieger, for example, who revolutionised the bathroom with Duravit back in the 1980s, or Philippe Starck, who has been collaborating with the company since 1994.

30 years ago, high standards in design were not as widespread in Germany as they are today. How the landscape has changed since then is well illustrated by a bathroom renovation that was undertaken in a family home in the Black Forest recently. The bathroom’s original look relied on lots of wood and white marble tiles, but now, a generation later, everything looks completely different.

Today, the daughter of the family lives with her husband and children in the old family home, but room by room, and with great attention to detail, they have brought the house interior into the new millennium. The project included the realisation of her own dream bathroom – a particular challenge due not least to the condition of the room's 30-year-old plumbing, but one which the young woman, nonetheless, gladly accepted.

Enter Duravit. She not only found the exact products she needed to realise her designs, but was also able to utilise the company’s Bathroom Planner 2.0, which allowed her to visualise her plans. The result combines a modern, contemporary appearance, high-quality products and optimised functionality.
