A bench could not be more like a sofa than this. The idea of sitting at a table on an upholstered bench has a long-standing tradition. A bench gives the person sitting on it the feeling that they have ample space to spread out and is also the perfect solution for larger groups around a table. The Odeon Dining Sofa also shines when positioned as a stand-alone piece.

Konsep
Odeon is the first piece of upholstered furniture created by Marco Dessí, an Italian designer living in Vienna. Dessí is an exciting addition to Wittmann’s creative pool. His work demonstrates an openess to new ways of doing things without turning his back on the company’s traditions. At an early stage of his development as a designer, Marco Dessí developed his own formal language which has proven to be a natural fit with the Wittmann approach. Odeon is a calm and laid back piece with a distinctly independent stance. Striking lines provide a visual accent on the backrest and seat, underscoring the characteristic quality of Wittmann’s handcraftsmanship and adding to the seating comfort. It is a delicate and contemporary sofa whose true qualities come to the fore whichever angle the piece is viewed from. A matching footrest complements the new model.

Studio Marco Dessí is a multidisciplinary design studio based in Vienna. The studio’s approach is practical and collaborative, where design is understood as an interactive process. Self-initiated ventures serve to experiment with materials and test processes that can be later applied onto commercial projects and/or developed further to meet the requirements of industrial or handmade replication. Commissioned design work always starts with immediate study of the client, their respective production methods and methods’ inherent potentials. Dessí’s studio is not committed to any particular style, preferred material or unified formula, but rather regards designing as a trade characterised by a deep understanding of materials, processes and how the two are linked. The way in which an object is produced has a direct influence over its aesthetic appearance and the story that it tells. In his work, Marco Dessí values transparency in terms of a consistent link between the process of designing and the actual conditions of production. Established in 2008, the studio works with a list of international clients and cultural institutions on a variety of scales, ranging from furniture and product design to spatial solutions.
