Cross Extending Table | Walnut
Architonic ID: 20340874
SKU: 106534
The award-winning Cross Extending Table is a prime example of Matthew Hilton's innovative approach to wood furniture design and signature minimal aesthetic.
Both practical and versatile, clean lines come together to create a distinctly contemporary base that allows for ample leg room.
The table top expands with a smooth and simple pull to allow for the addition of two extra leaves — with a mechanical ball-bearing system ensuring a smooth transition. The extension leaves can be stored in a concealed, felt-lined compartment under the table top when not in use.
Constructed from a solid wood base and a solid edge veneered top, the Cross Extending Table can be used to seat between 6 and 14 people.
Winner of the ELLE Decoration Award for Best in Furniture 2006, the Homes & Gardens Classic Design Award in 2007 and the Design Guild Mark in 2008.
Two-person assembly required.
The Cross Extending Table was awarded the prestigious Design Guild Mark in 2008. The Design Guild Mark is awarded by The Furniture Makers Company in order to drive excellence and raise the profile of British design and innovation. It recognises the highest standards in the design of furnishings and lighting for volume production, by the finest designers working in Britain, or British designers working abroad.

I started this business in 2007 to gain control of the design, manufacturing and marketing of furniture under my own name. I felt that the conventional relationship between designer, manufacturer and retailer was undergoing significant changes, partly brought on by the shifts caused by the internet and developments in fast global communication and trade. The time was right for me to step up and take hold of a more significant part of the process of putting furniture out into the world. Matthew Hilton Limited was formed with a new kind of licensing deal with the Portuguese company De La Espada. De La Espada bring craftsmanship and experience of using premium materials combined with advanced manufacturing technology and innovative marketing methods. Since the launch in 2007 my collection has grown and we now have a small, focused design studio. Our product development thrives on modern manufacturing combined with knowledge and hand skills; exploiting this is our challenge. I now have a place to fulfil my passion to create exquisitely made desirable, rigorous and beautiful products that I hope will stick around because they work and people love them.
