Alu-Stool

When the aluminium specialist Eberhard Fielitz showed me processing samples of aluminium plates, I thought of the pleating techniques of Issey Miyake – these portable substance sculptures! We worked directly with the aluminium sheets; there is not a single sketch for the stool. At the beginning, a large number of prototypes got damaged because the material was too thin or broke during the bending. But the real secret lies in the exact bending of the sheets to web plates. The webs must be bent exactly at a 90-degree angle, not 90.1 and also not 89.9 degrees, otherwise they tip over during pressing.
