WAVE could become your favourite place to dwell, where you can leave your troubles behind and be overwhelmed by a wave of wellness. Simply allow your body to hover somewhere between heaven and earth whilst doing absolutely nothing… bliss
The WAVE hammock was designed by Erik Nyberg and Gustav Strom and is manufactured by Royal Botania, using only the finest craftsmen and the most luxurious materials. The hammock was launched at The Hotel Show in Dubai in June 2008, where it received huge attention and design acclaim.
At Europe’s major design Fair MAIDON&OBJECT Outdoor/Indoor, WAVE was given pride of place at the show to recognise the uniqueness of its design. It is seen as a piece of outdoor furniture in a category of its own as it is neither a hammock, sun chair or umbrella. It is a piece of considered artwork that combines functionality with beauty and elegance and all those who see it, seem immediately to want to own one.
The WAVE continued its success in Paris 2008 stopping many visitors in their tracks, making them smile, point and comment on the beauty and elegance. It has achieved unprecedented levels of coverage and clinched both of the shows two design prizes Les Decouvertes for creativity, innovation execution and quality, and Coup doe Coeur, for the shows favourite design item.
WAVE was selected as the favourite product at MAISON&OBJECT by several magazines such as Le Ligaro Madame, Marie Claire Maison, Architectural Design, Connaissances des Arts and Made in Design. Not to mention the online coverage through out the world.
WAVE is built using electro-polished stainless steel and 2 types of perforated fabric, one for the upper roof section and another for the seated area. WAVE creates a unique floating impression by being pivoted on one single point at the base. The construction is strong enough to withstand the weight of people and weather conditions. The measurements are 300cm x 365cm x 255cm. The fabric is semi transparent, however it has the properties to block 86% of the sun’s rays. The WAVE was designed to allow the feeling of lying underneath a canopy of a tree, whilst being gently enveloped by natural space. The WAVE can gently swing if required or remain static for ultimate serenity.
Royal Botania’s “WAVE” Wins Interior Design Magazine’s Best of Year Award (BoYA)
Celebrates With U.S. Circuit Tour “Catch The Wave”
The international design community has spoken and the winner of Interior Design Magazine’s Best of Year Award (BoYA) in the Outdoor Furniture Category is: Royal Botania’s “WAVE” hammock. After an intense online voting process, which garnered nearly 30,000 votes from leading architects and designers, the finalists were chosen. A jury of design professionals including the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Cindy Allen then selected the winner in each category. A newcomer to the US market, it was the first time that Royal Botania was nominated for the award and the first time it took home the honor of Interior Design’s Best of Year. No stranger to the spotlight, the WAVE also received five design nominations at Maison & Objet in Paris. Now, the US architecture and design community will have an opportunity to test-drive the product as it travels around the country on its first-ever nation-wide tour.
Unlike any other piece of its kind, it is neither a hammock, nor a sun chair, nor a parasol. It is an artwork that combines functionality with beauty and elegance. Designed by Erik Nyberg & Gustav Ström, the WAVE consists of electro-polished stainless steel and mesh. The canopy and seat sling are made from batyline. The fabric is semi-transparent while at the same time offering protection by blocking 86 percent of the sun's rays. The seat has a removable cushion in foam/fabric. WAVE is available in white, cappuccino, black or turquoise with two base options allowing for integration in the terrace or embedment into the ground. It measures an impressive 12 ft x 9.5 ft x 8 ft, yet stands on a single point. The construction gives it its unique floating impression, and allows it to withstand the elements. Plus, it can rotate 90˚ around the base, giving it additional flexibility depending on the position of the sun.
Given its grandeur, a simple US launch would not suffice. Instead the Belgian-based Royal Botania is taking a different approach and has coordinated a nation-wide tour. Architects, designers and design-savvy consumers alike are invited to “Catch the WAVE” as it travels around the country. It will be making strategic stops surrounding design/fashion/movie related events in several cities including LA, New York and Miami. Talk about elite, the first stop on the tour is a month-long stint at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Florida and the second is a cameo appearance at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles.
