Mag-Phos cement
In a new era of conscientious resource management we’re fortunate to have a better cement choice than traditional portland cement...especially for decorative applications.
Portland cement production is a major energy user and source of “greenhouse gas” emissions. In fact, experts estimate that cement production contributes to about 7% of carbon dioxide emissions from human sources. However, magnesium-phosphate or 'Mag Phos' cement requires only between 20-40% of the energy used to produce portland cement.
Unlike portland cement, Mag Phos cement bonds easily with a variety of cellulose materials. We add a fibrous filler to reduce weight and enhance the texture of Vitrastone™.
Mag Phos cement does not off-gas harmful fumes, making it especially preferable for indoor applications.

Recycled Glass
We source a post-industrial recycled glass from right here in the region! This clean and clear source would otherwise be land-filled.

Fly Ash
This is the non-combustible mineral portion of coal. In a coal plant, after the coal is burned, particles of silica, alumina and calcium are collected before they “fly away”. Thus fly ash is the primary waste component of coal energy. On our Green Links page, check out the EPA statement on beneficial uses for flyash.
Recycling fly ash and glass for use in our cement mix conserves natural resource alternatives and avoids landfill disposal. It also displaces the production of other concrete ingredients resulting in significant energy savings and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
