Informal meeting areas are becoming increasing important. In contrast to formal gatherings, casual contact opportunities tend to promote exchange of ideas and opinions, as well as confidence building. Such places for informal encounters include semi-public corners along walkways and access zones, open lounges or areas reserved for specifically private purposes, for example integrated into an executive’s office. Velas, the new lounge chair, promotes a light and loose atmosphere and also supports the ambience created by modern, light-flooded architecture. The design takes up the theme of the light steel tube furniture of Classical Modernism, whilst translating the principle of a supporting metal frame structure with a flexible seat and backrest cover into a new and distinctive language: the fact that the graceful foot section is designed as a smooth transition of front legs, side sections and the rear horizontal brace creates a very casual but ordered appearance. The same applies to the “suspended” seat frame with the characteristic, collarlike upper edge of the backrest. With clear geometry, the chair does however assume a certain softness due to its subtle, organic contours and the light, extremely understated upholstery cover.
The fascinating construction also meets high ergonomic requirements: the lined, unitary cover, using innovative, seamless shaped knitting technology, provides support in the seat and lumbar area, whilst ensuring a high degree of resilience in the back section in order to stretch the cervical spine and achieve healthy seated comfort. The foot section in aluminium and steel is available with a bright chromium-plated or matt powder coated finish, and there is a wide choice of colours for the covers.
