Star is a Trevira CS velour which is often seen as a luxurious and classic fabric used especially in theatres and often in the traditional “gala red”. Star is an interpretation of classic velour, with a short, closely cut pile in an unconventional colour palette. Finn Sködt created an all-new colour style that gives it a compact, sporty and luxurious appearance. This makes it highly suitable for theatres and concert halls (seating as well as stage curtains). With its fresh and almost luminescent palette, Star is also suitable for curtains and upholstery in private homes. As upholstery, Star looks as if it has been painted on. With its beautiful smooth surface, the fabric almost seems to recede into the background allowing the colour to interplay freely. The textile is therefore an optimum way of showing colours in all their clarity, and the obvious choice for a wide-ranging colour palette.
Finn Sködt’s use of colour was inspired by the oil paintings of the Renaissance, particularly portraits of the Madonna depicting stunning drapery in shifting shades of red, blue and green and the Madonna clad in a heavy, soft cape of clear aquamarine velour. He has given his interpretation a modern and contemporary twist – in part inspired by the modern Madonna – and the colours of Star are definitely those of Finn Sködt, from the clear aquamarine blue, through pure green, magenta and pink, to more subtle colours such as cashmere, olive and white like those in the Divina and Campas designs. Finn Sködt has been designing upholstery and curtain fabrics for Kvadrat since the early 1980s. He is renowned for his unique ability to discover and combine colours. He always uses the primary colours red, yellow and blue as his starting point, moving into other shades and colours from there. According to Finn Sködt, colours have an autocratic ability to elude any system. Colours must be experienced through the pigment and material not a system of colours!
