Satellite appears unicoloured from a distance, but reveals a gridded pattern of coloured dots as the viewer gets closer. The fabric combines two colours: the background tone and dots in another shade. Vibeke Rohland: ‘The colour of Satellite is expressed through an interaction between the base colour and the dots. The detail in the design is one of the strengths of what, initially, seems to be a simple textile.’
Suitable for contract and private use, Map and Satellite are in the same design ‘family’ as Squares, another curtain design for Kvadrat by Vibeke Rohland. As a result, they share many colours and combine particularly well. A graduate from the Danish School of Art and Design,
Vibeke Rohland’s designs, at first glance, appear clean and simple. However, under closer examination, they challenge initial perceptions by revealing several signs of an uncompromising and unique style. For instance, her work is full of contrasts and often moves between polarities. Vibeke Rohland’s wide-ranging portfolio includes bags, cushions, t-shirts, tablecloths and curtains. As a textile designer, she has worked with leading international brands, such as Royal Copenhagen, Georg Jensen Damask, Bodum, Hay Chp, Esprit and Kvadrat. The designer’s list of exhibitions is extensive and includes solo exhibitions such as Sign-Lingo at Danish Design Centre (2003), Gallery The Hand and The Spirit, Scottsdale, Arizona (1998), the Printers and Weavers Guild’s 60th anniversary exhibition, EXPO, the 2005 World Expo in Japan and at Danish Design Centre, and the Biennale for Design and Crafts in 2007.
