People and space
“SARUYAMA in 1989 and SARUYAMA ISLANDS in 2006 were projects that attempted to bring a major change to the conventional perception of chairs. These sofas with organic forms can be arranged and combined freely to suit one’s wishes, and by doing so, the surrounding space can also be altered.
Two new chairs have been added to the series. The small swivel chairs will bring further variety to how the space can be configured. The different materials and colours used for the chair covers also have significant influence in determining the mood and feel of the space.
The principal theme here is about people “sitting down” and “creating” the design of the space, “the relationship between people and their space”. In that sense, the organic shapes bring a vibrant rhythm to the space, and are products of the consideration given to both the physical and psychological aspects of sitting down.”
